Penalties Hinder Blue Tongues

The Blue Tongues hosted the Adelaide A's today at Gold Coast Iceland. As neither team are able to make the top 4 on the ladder, the game was a matter of playing for pride, more than points.

The first period opened with the Blue Tongues #20 Marco Bertossa* scoring in the opening minute.The first period started well, with the Tongues scoring in the opening minute. A strong attack by the Blue Tongues saw Bryan Lachance score just 2 minutes later to put the Blue Tongues up 2-0.

The A's continued to put shots on net but the defense, led by Chris Martin worked hard to block shots and clear pucks. Those that did get through were stopped by Tongues netminder CJ Anderson.

With a little over 4 minutes remaining in the game Gaetan Royer was hit center ice with an elbow from A's player Cass Delsar which resulted in a broken nose. Bleeding, Royer attempted to fight Delsar, who wanted nothing to do with it. The hit, and resulting scuffle saw penalties handed out to Gaetan Royer ( 2 x 25min Match Penalties), Bryan Lachance (5min major Slashing and 20min game misconduct) and Adelaide's Cass Delsar (5min major elbow, 20min game misconduct).

Adelaide, as a result of the penalties had a long 10 minute powerplay, and finally managed to break through the Blue Tongues defenses midway through the 2nd period off a goal from Peter Lindgren. The A's would score twice more in the 2nd period to lead 3-2 going into the second intermission.

The third period tested the Blue Tongues, who faced a barrage of shots from the A's offensive lines, outshooting the Blue Tongues 12 to 3 in the frame. No goals were able to be scored by either team however, and the game ended 3-2 to the visiting team.
