Long Flight Home For Winless Blue Tongues

#22 Marco Bertossa battles for the puckThe Bartercard Gold Coast Blue Tongues came back winless today from playing both the Sydney Ice Dogs and Sydney Bears over consecutive days on the weekend.

In the first game in Liverpool against the Ice Dogs early indications were that it was going to be a tough game with Blue Tongues import Dallas Costanzo sending Ice Dogs player Scott Stephenson clear over the boards into the Blue Tongues bench with a great hit. A fracas developed whilst Stephenson was in the Blue Tongue bench, and tempers spilled further onto the ice with a number of players involved.

Unfortunately, this show of strength didn’t help the Blue Tongues going down to the Ice Dogs 4-1. The lone scorer for the Blue Tongues was Mike Mcrae with assists going to Dallas Costanzo and Jon Bale.

The second game in Penrith against the Sydney Bears was shaping up to be a great last period with the Blue Tongues trailing 2-0. However, the Bears were successful in getting a few early goals and the Blue Tongues didn’t have enough in them to finish the game off strong going down to the Bears 7-1. Dan Pederson continued his now trademark breakaway scoring skill clearly out smarting top import goalie Nick Boucher. Dan was put into the clear by Dallas Costanzo.

Though the score line doesn’t indicate it, the Blue Tongues certainly had every opportunity to win both games, out shooting both the Ice Dogs and Bears in both games. The team will be back at training this week working on being able to capitalise on their scoring opportunities. So far this early in the season the team has dominated the shots on goal department against each team they have faced.

The Bartercard Gold Coast Blue Tongues don’t have to wait long to exert revenge as they meet the Sydney Ice Dogs this weekend at Iceland in Bundall with both games starting at 4.00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
