Coach's Report - Melbourne Road Trip 4-5 July

The Blue Tongues hope to put the brakes on a hot Ice teamA Must Win Weekend! | Howell returns home!

We travel to Melbourne this weekend to face the Melbourne Ice in 2 must win games. With positions 2nd to 4th all within one point, the team faces a big challenge after only securing one of a possible 6 points last weekend. The boys will need to bunker down this weekend against a strong Melbourne team that is sitting just one point behind us on the ladder. We played 2 fairly good road games last weekend in Sydney, however it seemed we were playing not to lose instead of taking advantage of our chances to win the games, something we will have to be much better at this weekend.

The team that will be required to dig deep and play smart, disciplined, finishing hockey this weekend is as follows:

Goal:
#30 - Luke Fivash, Luke will get the start on Saturday, Luke played well both games and gave the team every opportunity to win, he will be counted on for the same this weekend.

#1 - CJ Anderson, CJ joins the team for his first games of the season, similar to last year the team knows CJ will be ready if called upon.

Defence:

#5- Ben "Grizzly" Spillane, Ben played well last weekend and grew in confidence with the added ice time, Ben will need to play big on the small Melbourne ice.

#8 - Cam Trew, Cam showed good improvement last weekend and will need to continue to strive forward to be successful this weekend.

#21 - Chris Martin "A", Marty logged massive ice time last weekend and will be counted on to lead the D this weekend.

#88 - Henrik Ivarsson, Henrik was very good at both ends of the ice last weekend, he will see plenty of ice again this weekend to shine.

Forwards:

#23 - Ben Maher, Red played much better on Sunday, once use to the increased ice time.

#10 - Jon Bale, Jonnie played well at centre and left wing over the weekend and will see action at both locations again this weekend.

#22 Marco Bertossa, Marco continues to be the Ever ready battery, he just keeps on keeping on.

#27 - Ross Howell "C", Ross will see action both on D and up front this weekend and with the return to his home city will be fired up to get on top of the Ice.

#96 - Dave Upton "A", Dave has an exam on Saturday and will fly to Melbourne on Sunday, Davey's grit and hard work is always welcomed.

#16 - Jack Connor, Jack returns to the line-up this weekend and will compliment Smulders and Selander well.

#7 - Andre Selander, Andre scored all the teams goals last weekend and for us to be successful he needs to continue to find the back of the net.

#9 - Brad Smulders, Brad was shut out goal wise last weekend, so he will be fired up to make amends this weekend.

This weekend marks the nuts and bolts time of the season, we as a team need to step up and believe that we are a rightful final 4 side, however, that requires us to take the bull by the horns and lead from the front, be committed, with the desire to finish our chances and win the little battles to win the big games.
