The Bartercard Gold Coast Blue Tongues hosted the visiting Adelaide Adrenaline today in the second of back-to-back games on the Gold Coast. After suffering a 5-0 loss on Saturday, the Blue Tongues were hoping to bounce back with a victory.
The home team were without Brad Young today due to a 2 game suspension handed to him after last nights match. Joining the team today were Cam Trew on defense and Alex Boyd up front, with CJ Anderson starting between the pipes.
The Blue Tongues came out much better in the first period than they had the previous day and drew an early penalty against the visitor, however Olivier Martin and the Adrenaline defense were equal to it. The crowd was witness to end to end hockey, including 2 Adrenaline powerplays that the Blue Tongues killed off, with CJ Anderson coming up with some great saves. It was the Adrenaline who drew first blood however, when Sam Bennett, assisted by James Keane and Darren Corstens got one past Anderson to give the away team a 1-0 lead going into the first break.

#16 Matt Amado was a major scoring threat when the Blue Tongues traveled to Adelaide recently
The Blue Tongues started the second period on the Powerplay and did well to pepper Martin with shots, however failed to get one past the Adelaide netminder. Fast paced hockey, including penalties for both teams occupied much of the period until local favorite Dave Upton, assisted by Ross Howell, tied the game with just over a minute left in the period. The Blue Tongues celebrations were cut short however, when the Adrenaline added their second goal of the game in the closing minute, to give the away team a 2-1 lead at the end of the period.
Period 3 started with a freshly invigorated home team increasing the tempo, and the physicality of the game. Matt Amado bought the scoreline back equal when he scored on the powerplay, assisted by Tobias Falk and Dave Upton just over 3 minutes into the period.
A lapse in the Blue Tongues defense gave Adelaide's James Keane a breakaway opportunity which was challenged by CJ Anderson with a diving poke check. Keane, avoiding the check slid the puck into the empty net to take a 3-2 lead for the visiting team.
The physical play increased with big hits from both teams and penalties being called against both teams. Adelaide took the advantage with just over 3 minutes to play when Darren Corstens scored an unassisted goal to give the Adrenaline a 2 goal buffer. The Blue Tongues, led by Matt Amado answered once more when he scored, assisted by Mike McRae a minute later.
The Blue Tongues dominated the final minutes of the game, but could not get one more past the stellar Adelaide defense. The game ended with the Adrenaline winning 4-3.
The Blue Tongues are on the road next weekend where they visit Canberra to take on the Knights.
