Bartercard Gold Coast Blue Tongues Make History

The Goodall Cup awaits the AIHL Champion

First Finals Appearance for Blue Tongues in their Five Year History!

The Bartercard Gold Coast Blue Tongues have made their first finals appearance in their short five years in the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL), and without even playing a game over of the last weekend.

During the week it was published that the Canberra Knights had played two ineligible players in their win last Saturday on the Gold Coast. The result was 3 points to the Blue Tongues and a guaranteed berth in the final four in Newcastle on the 29-30 August. The finals weekend is played between 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 on Saturday, 29 August, and the winners of the two games playing out the AIHL Final on Sunday, 30 August. The make up of the final four will still be decided over the next two weekends.

One thing for sure is the Blue Tongues will be wanting to make a huge statement over finalists Melbourne Ice this weekend, Saturday and Sunday 4.00PM at Iceland in Strathaird Road, Bundall.

Saturday's game will have some special guests, members of Queensland's 1977 Goodall Cup winning team...the only Queensland team to win Australia's National Ice Hockey Championship in 100 years!
The members of the team that will be there include Thornton McLaren, Rick Schram, Terry Mouland, Phil Greenwood, John Fenton, Peter Nixon, and Russ Trudeau.
Also in attendance will be the 100 year old Goodall Cup, standing at almost a metre tall with the names of most of the players on the winning teams over the 100 years.
