2012 Home Opener

Written by  Zack Debiasi

The Blue Tongues are eagerly heading into their opening home game for Season 2012 this weekend, against the Newcastle North Stars at 4 pm, Iceland in Bundall.  They are looking to avenge last weekend’s razor close 4-3 loss to the North Stars and carry the momentum from last Sunday's 7-2 demolishing of the Sydney Bears.

In last weekend’s season opener, the Blue Tongues got off to a slow start and were down 3-0 after one.  However, they quickly rallied and managed to storm back and tie the game in the 2ndperiod.   Newcastle would score at the end of the 2ndthough, which would prove to be the difference.

The Blue Tongues managed to carry over the momentum that they generated at the end of the first game into their matchup with Sydney.  They stormed out to a 5-2 1st period lead, and didn’t look back cruising to a 7-2 victory.

Last weekend the Blue Tongues were lead by two import players.  Returning import Mike McRae and newcomer Andreas Camenzind each tallied 6 points over the weekend.  Two new local players stepped up as well with Jeremy Brucker and Matt Johnson both scoring their first goals in the AIHL.

Newcastle did not end their weekend on a high note.  They dropped their second game 6-4 to the Sydney Ice Dogs evening their record to 1-1.  The Blue Tongues will look to correct their slow start in last weekend’s first period of game 1 and maintain the momentum that they generated throughout the last 5 periods.
