The local Gold Coast Hockey League had their Grand Final on Thursday night, and the Barracudas took home their ninth Melbas Cup in the last eleven years beating the Bears 6-5.
The Bears having won the minor premiership with Blue Tongue Players Mike Mcrae, Mikki Levy, and Blue Tongues coach Reese Kalleitner were looking the goods with a 4-2 lead through the second period, however the Barracudas found something extra and came home very strong to overtake the Bears and denied them of a two-peat championship.
Leading the way for the Barracudas was Blue Tongue import Matt Amado with three goals, and singles going to Blue Tongue forward Brad Young, Jeff Anderson represented the old guard on the Cudas, and Liam Hall stepped up for the rookies.
As well as Liam Hall’s efforts, two other future young guns Luke Moore on defense and Nick Novysedlak in goals also did their part to reassure Blue Tongue management that things look bright for the future.
This year the Gold Coast Hockey League teams and the Blue Tongues will hold a joint presentation, and everyone is welcome to attend the senior presentations to recognise the individual achievements of our senior players this year, hear some interesting acceptance speeches, and more importantly the last opportunity as a group to get together and rattle on about our great season of hockey on the Gold Coast!
