The Bartercard Gold Coast Blue Tongues held their award presentations last night at 1TWO3 Dining, Lounge and Bar in Broadbeach.
The evening was great mix of volunteers, local GCHL players, family and friends, and of course the team.
The presentations also included the awards in the local Gold Coast Hockey League. Most supporters would be aware that the Blue Tongue players all participate in the local league on the Gold Coast, and are divided up amongst the four teams that participate. Rivalry and banter is intense, particularly amongst the players themselves! The Blue Tongue players all featured in the local league awards with the following players taking out their respective MVP awards, Matt Amado/Barracudas, CJ Anderson/Jokers, Marco Bertossa/Euros, Mikki Levy/Ice Bears and Ice Bears Mike Mcrae taking out leading scorer in the league.
During the evening each Blue Tongue player was asked to come up to the stage and collect their team photos taken at Surfers Paradise beach last Sunday morning. To the players surprise part of collecting their photo was being asked a challenging question about a particular happening through the year. There certainly was some interesting stories told, and one Cam Trew seemed to feature in more than one story!
This year’s award winners included:
- MVP – Tobias Falk
- Best Local Player – Luke Fiveash
- Most Improved Player – shared Brad Young and Jack Connor
- Rookie of the Year – Alex Hall
- Leading Scorer – Matt Amado
Team Management and Players all made mention of their appreciation for all the volunteers and sponsors this year, understanding that without them the Blue Tongues simply wouldn’t exist and have the opportunity to play in a very competitive and entertaining national league throughout Australia (AIHL).
Special mention this year was given to volunteers Sean Garvan and Corrine Connor, as well as sponsors, Brian Hall Bartercard, Paul Rayner & Glen Kercher Cash Converters, Roman Balaz Casa Marble & Granite, and Dave & Jan Emblem Queensland Coast Realty.
The team will go through their assessments over the next month, and will get together for regular off ice training from November onwards in anticpation of 2012 season due to start in April next year.
