After three games played between the fourth placed Bartercard Gold Coast Blue Tongues and the league leading Medibank Melbourne Ice the two teams are dead even in regulation play.
Both teams have won against each other 5-3 on the Gold Coast, in Melbourne they drew 2-2, a total of 12 goals each in three games, and this Saturday they face off against each other in Melbourne for the last time in the regular season. Even more ironic is that if the Blue Tongues hold on to fourth place in their last four remaining games of the season, guess who will be their opponent first up in the AIHL Finals Series on 3-4 September in Melbourne.....yes you guessed it ....Melbourne Ice!

#16 Matt Amado broke his 2007 scoring record last weekend by scoring his 41st goal of the season.
Many thought there was significance in the two games last weekend for the Blue Tongues, what about the implications of the outcome of this Saturday’s game!
Aside from the fact that the Blue Tongues need to keep winning to maintain their fourth place position, a win in Melbourne by the Blue Tongues would be the Ice’s only loss in regulation time in Melbourne this season. This is an outcome that would play heavily on the minds of a team that has only lost a few games out of 28, and having to play a one game knock out semi final against a team you haven’t beaten in your home rink.
The Blue Tongues are certainly taking the one game at a time approach, and all the team is focussed on at the moment is Saturday’s game, and once the siren sounds the focus will quickly turn to the next day in the same venue, when the team meets the AIHL’s newest team, the Mustangs.
The Blue Tongues will be flying to Melbourne with a full team, except for assistant captain Dave Upton who is unavailable to make the trip. In Dave’s absence Zach Daunt will slot into the team on his arrival back from overseas. The coaching staff is very pleased with the consistency of the team over the last eight games, having only lost one game in regulation time in those eight games. Of course the team and management certainly do not take into consideration the forfeit laid against them for having a game cancelled on the Gold Coast that was completely out of the team’s control. Nonetheless it has made the team more determined and they have quietly gone about their business gaining great momentum and confidence.
Thanks to the great set up in Melbourne, the Ice are able to stream the game live on your computer this Saturday, game starts at 5.45 PM. The Blue Tongues would love to have your support in spirit, and you can tune in through the following link: http://www.livestream.com/melbourneice
